I've had quite a burst of productivity this week and managed to complete two of my UnFinished Objects (blogged here)!
The first was a collage on canvas idea I had been harbouring in my head for ages.. I wanted to make a fabric and felt collage of a tree with a felt bird in its branches. Here is how the project came together:
1. Paint a canvas two-thirds green and one-third blue as the background.
2. Make the tree from some yellow and white checked cotton and lots of felt leaves in autumn colours to sew on.
3. Die-cut a bird from pink space-dyed felt, blanket-stitch around the edges, add a button eye and feather wings.
4. Ruin the canvas by attempting to add detail in the sky and field (big mistake, it looked AWFUL).5. Start again on a new canvas and shelve the project for several weeks.
6. Lightbulb moment: stick bits of green netting and sequin mesh to the canvas with Mod Podge to add texture (now I can call it a mixed media collage!). Add some Wonder-web fluffy clouds in the same way.
7. Stick on the tree and bird, scattering fallen leaves around the base. Add a quote with foam Thickers and chipboard letters.
8. Hang work of art and and bask in husband's admiration(?)
